NHL Hitz 20–02, also known as NHL Hitz 2002, is an arcade-style ice hockey video game released by Midway Games. Midway launched this game along with NFL Blitz. The game was a launch title for the Nintendo Gamecube and was also released on Xbox and PlayStation 2. It differs from traditional NHL games in that it does not try to accurately simulate real-life ice hockey. The rules are much more relaxed and the attributes of players dramatically increased, giving the game its "arcade-y" feel.
- Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHL_Hitz_20-02If I could describe this game using one word, I would say that this game is entertaining. NHL Hitz is a different type of hockey game compared to the hockey games released by EA Games. I'm gonna start with what is unrealistic about this game.
The Unrealistic Side:
Here's a start on things, referee's don't call penalties. Penalties are to be used to keep the game align and in order. This is not anything near what would happen in real NHL hockey.
Fights in this game are fun, because it takes on a two-player arcade, Mortal Kombat style approach. Fights aren't realistic, because instead of both players being sent to a penalty box, the losing player just gets sent to the bench, so there are no power plays in this game.
Another thing is when a hat trick is achieved, the freaking player gets struck by lightning and he is set on fire. instead of dying like he would in the real world, he appears to get stronger, and his shots turn a fireball.
One more thing is that each side only has three players on the rink at a time. This helps because the rink is smaller than the average NHL rink size. Oddly, making this game unrealistic just makes it even funner.
Why this game is fun:
Don't you just wish that real hockey games could have players skating around on fire? Wouldn't you love to see more action in an NHL match? How cool would it be to see the Detroit Red Wings take on the Boston Bruins in a hockey match ON THE MOON!?
Final Look:
Graphics (for its time): 4 (It's okay...)
Audio: 5 (HUGE variety, from Hard Rock to Rap.)
Gameplay: 4 (Get's pretty hard, which is fun, when you're not being slaughtered, 19 to 0.)
Story: 2 (I don't like season modes for sports games...)
AVERAGE RATING ISSSSSSSSS
4.0
